Job Description

We’re looking for a freelance Assistant Technologist to join the technical team of a premium/luxury retailer, supporting the development and delivery of multi-category hard goods — covering home accessories, toys, and seasonal gifting. This role will be for an initial 3 months with potential of extension.

Suitable candidates must be immediately available and not on notice.

This junior-level role will provide proactive technical and administrative support throughout the product development process, ensuring that all products meet the highest standards for quality, safety, and legal compliance.

The role:

  • Support the management of the technical critical path, helping the team stay on track with key dates and deliverables.
  • Organise and track fit sessions and product reviews, maintaining accurate records and timely communication with suppliers.
  • Assist in preparing technical specifications, care labels, packaging content, and testing requirements for each product.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of fit comments, test reports, compliance documentation, and accreditations.
  • Monitor supplier audits and follow up on updated documentation, non-compliances, and corrective actions.
  • Support investigations into non-compliant product issues and liaise with suppliers and logistics teams to resolve problems efficiently.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, factories, and internal teams to ensure smooth technical processes and product delivery.
  • Contribute to sustainability, packaging, and compliance initiatives, ensuring accurate data capture and supporting product improvements.
  • Assist in competitor benchmarking, quarterly market reviews, and reporting on product quality, innovation, and materials.
  • Stay informed on industry regulations and trends, contributing to continuous improvement across the team.

The candidate:

  • Previous experience in a similar assistant technologist or technical administration role, ideally within hard goods or home/lifestyle product categories.
  • Good understanding of product safety, quality standards, legal compliance, and production processes.
  • Confident communicator with strong organisational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experienced working with product information or critical path systems.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with sustainability, CSR, and ethical compliance is an advantage.
  • Enthusiastic, collaborative, and eager to grow within a technical team.

As a freelancer you will receive a competitive day rate, paid weekly, alongside paid holiday entitlement and the opportunity to join a pension scheme.

This is a temporary opportunity, likely to be filled quickly — so apply today to avoid missing out
